Composed in 1788, it is one of only two symphonies he wrote in minor keys and reflects his interest in the artistic movement known as Sturm und Drang (Storm and Stress), in which darker and stronger emotions were showcased. In Mozart’s dark and moody Piano Concerto no. 24 in C minor, Lupu was the eye of the hurricane, contrasting the orchestra’s stormy turbulence in the Allegro, subdued and subtle in the more tranquil Larghetto, and making the variations on the somber, sinister march theme of the Allegretto a haunting contrast of emotions. The Symphony No. 25 in G minor, K. 183/173dB, was written by the then 17-year-old Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart in October 1773, shortly after the success of his opera seria Lucio Silla. It was supposedly completed in Salzburg on October 5, a mere two days after the completion of his Symphony No. 24 , although this remains unsubstantiated. Symphony No. 25 is nicknamed the "Little g minor," because it is the shorter of two symphonies that Mozart wrote in that key (the other being No. 40 K 550).
